Library Monthly and Annual Reports 1926-1970 (bulk 1936-1945).

Collection consists of 5 folders : Folder 1 contains Library "Departmental Budget" summeries for fiscal years "1922/23 to 1936/37" and Library and Branch Library Budgets 1927-46" (1936-46). Folder 2 contains correspondence and summaries referring to the increased number of patarons at the beginning of the Second World War, budget allocations, estimated building and collection values, library activity and circulation reports (1936-1946). Folder 3 consists of stapled Annual Reports, 1947-1952. Folder 4: small mimeographed or printed Annual Report pamphlets for FY 1952/53 to FY 1968-1969. Folder 5 contains typed or mimeographed staff meeting notes from 1965 to 1970.

The first new Monterey Library building in the 20th century was built at the corner of Van Buren and Franklin streets in 1910-11. It was made possible by a $10,000 grant from Andrew Carnegie's trust fund for "free public libraries", the first of the wealthy steel industrialist's public endowment programs.
